Jellyfish - Spilt Milk

Album-of-the-week: 4-06-04

It would have to be a great album to inspire me to start an album-of-the-week blog category, wouldn’t it?

I call this progressive pop — the arrangements are epic, the performances are dazzling, and the lyrics are clever.

I want to listen to this again right now, but I left the CD at home. I love it, and you will too.

A great album although I’m more partial to their first album Bellybutton.

Wonder where they are now?

Maybe this is the place to start a petition to bring back Jellyfish! Let your voices be heard.

I decided to give the Amazon samples a listen as the “progressive pop” intrigued me.

Granted, you can’t reach much of a conclusion from a few samples, but my first impression was “They sound just like Queen.” This is, of course, colored by the fact that I just rediscovered all of my Queen tapes this past week.

Later tracks sounded a little less like Queen, but still quite good.

I have to admit, I am intrigued. I added it to my wish list. I think I’ll like this one.

They do have some very Queen-like moments. They also, in turns, sound like the Beach Boys and the Beatles. One song has a very Doobie Brothers moment. They are full of surprises!
