Jimmy Swaggart

A recent quote by evangelist Jimmy Swaggart:

I’ve never seen a man in my life I wanted to marry. And I’m going to be blunt and plain: If one ever looks at me like that, I’m going to kill him and tell God he died.

Jimmy Swaggart Talks About Killing Gay Men

No wonder people are disillusioned with Christianity. The famous ones are all money-grubbing, judgmental hypocrites.

You need to understand that he did not simply say he would kill gay men. Listen to the entire message in content and you will see that he did not say it in that meaning. Also, if he or anyone did, they are intitled to their opinion. If you are gay (Male), wouldn’t you “hate” any straight girl that would want to have you sexually? Wouldn’t you be discusted with the very thought? I have watched Will & Grace enough to know Gays think the same way and say it in jest all the time.
BTW - no one is disillusioned with Christianity. It is continuously growing and progressing because more and more people are becoming discusted with the “freedoms” and “liberties” people are taking. Constantly making THEIR point of views known and PUSHING them on people, but if a “traditionalist” or “conservative” speaks, they are made to look like a fool. No matter what you may think or what your opinion may be, the truth is that when “gays” are seen on tv or movies or reality programs or vidios, they are there for comical purposes. Everyone knows that if you want drama on a show, get a gay person involved. That is not a very respectable representation but it is the very truth that some NEED to accept. If “Christians” are looked at as “old-fashioned fools” also know that “modernists” are seen as “unrooted, unruly & undisaplined oafs”. In time, with age, they will see their error and understand their frustrations with life and society. At the end of it all, you’ll end up like everyone else, unfulfilled and empty, because your old friends and family won’t accept you and your “modern” ways. You will be forced to live in your own communities and areas, marching in your own parades waving your own flags because no nation or festival will accept you. That does not have to be, you can be “normal” for a lack of better words. Sad but true (tear on my cheek).

As Christians we are called to hate sin, not sinners, and this quote by Jimmy is full of hate. He is a public figure, and by saying anything that could be interpreted this way, he is damaging the church’s reputation as an institute of love and forgiveness. It does not matter what his whole message was. The sinfulness of homosexuality is not even at issue here.

His attitude places him squarely in the ranks of so many other public Christian figures who say one thing and practice another. This public hypocrisy and judgmental hatred (whether true or only imagined) is a serious cause of disillusionment towards Christianity.

i’m with you on the whole “hate the sin, not the sinner” thing. if you look at strict biblical definitions of sin, each of us sins hundreds of times a day. everything from looking at someone with lust to not pulling over and helping someone on the side of the road could be constituting a sin. that’s always been my biggest argument when people ask how, as a christian, i can fraternize with openly gay people.

the way i see it:
- we all sin everyday. all of us. every human alive.
- the bible says all sins are equal.

ergo, if homosexuals sin by committing acts unclean in god’s eyes and i commit sins of different natures, we’re both sinners. every day. if all sins are equal, then we’re in the same boat as far as i’m concerned.

the bible also says that we’ve all fallen short of the grace of god, we all deserve death, and our best works are as filthy rags. who am i to judge?

jimmy should know this. i don’t even know my bible very well, and i know this. this is christianity 101. i’ll never understand christians who dismiss gays. they’re breaking rule number one, the one that jesus said was the single most important commandment around which all others are based: love they neighbor.

The best part about this is that I keep getting emails “Please moderate Jimmy Swaggart”.

I wish I could. I wish I could.
